Road to 50 South – The Start
The Pan American Highway is the longest highway in the world – from Alaska to Ushuaia, Argentina (the place called ‘End of the World’ and 50 South is the southernmost Latitude before Antarctica)) there is an approximate 200 km break in the highway between Panama and Colombia – the only practical way to bridge this gap is to ship your vehicle. Here is a rough map of the route, the blue line is the planned route in and the green is the flight out
I along with various friends have been planning to drive from Vancouver to Ushuaia – for years now and for one reason or another have never quite made the start line.
That is about to change as this year in Sept/Oct I will be making the drive!
I have recently bought a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder in good shape and low km – the reason I picked a Nissan is because Nissan and Toyota are the 2 most common brands in South America. Picked a Pathfinder because it has all the advantages of a 4 wheel drive and the comfort of a car, this is very important as I will be doing most of my driving on highways and surfaced roads. And i love the name!
In the process of equipping the vehicle for the trip – will be posting a detailed list for those who may want to retrace the drive
Envy you Mate! I will be following you in each km of this trip... Cheers! Marcelo
