Day 6 - US

What a difference a night can make! J

My first good night’s sleep – guess getting used to switching hotels every night

The first 30 odd km were at sea level, right next to the breaking surf,  with sage covered hills immediately to your left and, for a change, the seas were calm – smooth breakers rolling in - what a great way to start the day!

Then I turned east and headed inland – from hills the landscape changed to arid flat valley. Had a comfortable drive with hardly any traffic to Barstow (apparently the Californian gateway to Route 66) stopped early at around 1:30 – Barstow is a one block town surrounded by the desert – love it!

You can see the first snow fall on the mountains in the distance

Just checked in – the price is what it should be the service is remarkable and the room is way cleaner than any room since I started – please save me from the cities! A room with part of a view..

Need to buy a few supplies like food, extra water and give the pathfinder a good going over – long distances between anything in the desert – a breakdown is not recommended! Although the temperatures are very mild at around 15 degrees

Off to get a beer and a pizza.....
The pizza was good the beer was ice cold, loved the atmosphere and the waitress was actually a woman! J

Tomorrow I head for Flagstaff, Arizona – will be a good one – the desert and I understand each other ;-)

....and my Pathfinder patiently waits!
